Hoxton Square, no. 33-34

above: No.33-34 being white-out from the elevation on Hoxton Square

We had to do a site survey of Hoxton Square, London, specifically No.33-34, hence the interest in this article or events that took place. Zaha Hadid had a building proposal for the site in 2005, not executed, on the second try as of 4th December 2008, the news was announced that Hadid had won the Hoxton Square project with her second proposed private (residential) and public (gallery exhibition) space for the currently architect's office + gallery space.

Finally, we can look forward to something out of the norm of contemporary architecture for housing in London...

Richard Serra in Paris & London 2008

Richard Serra - American Sculptor in Paris (Jarden des Tuleries) & London (Gagosian Gallery) 2008

A fan of Richard Serra's simple yet challenging and provocating in terms of scale, his steel sculptures never fail in allowing me to better appreciate spaces being confronted with tonnes of curved steel wrapping and separating imaginery boundaries. In my recent trip to Paris in November, as we (my unti from college) were walking through Jarden des Tuleries and low and behold - orange-brown covered rust of large steel works awaited me - it brought a tinge of excitement.

Marks of white sandy footprints were found at the base of the sculpture where "no-crossing-the-line" rope was not set. Especially the center part of the two curves, a tangent of departure.

Now that I look at it again, it looks like hot-fiery heated irons mimicking the event of the parting of the red sea. I have not read on his concept of this work but think its nice to formulate my own thoughts on how I feel and experience.

I'll be visiting the Gagosian Gallery following Friday, 12 December 2008, and am certainly looking forward to it. It serves as the main course following up from my Paris appetizer of Serra's works.
